Credit basics

Do I need U.S. credit as an F-1?

U.S. credit is useful later (rent, cards)—not a day-one requirement for every F-1. Banking and Student cards own the product how-tos.

Concepts 0/5

Need it when

  • After you have a local bank path
  • Landlord or card apps ask for a credit history
  • Before you open multiple cards for signup bonuses

Open a local bank path before chasing credit cards—alerts and a place to pay from matter first.

Write why you want credit this term (rent, utilities, one card)—then open Banking.

Mark at least three concepts (0/5)—especially need, timing, and traps.

Open an account the student-safe way before chasing cards.

  • Student cards

    Open

Campus ID, verification, and card options without traps.

  • Official bank / issuer pages only

  • SSN lesson (if you need a tax number)

    Open

SSN is for work/taxes—not a general student ID.

Common mistakes

  • Opening three cards in one week

Signup bonuses are not worth missed payments or hard inquiries you do not understand.

  • Thinking credit score affects your visa

It does not. Status rules live with your DSO—not Experian.

  • Using this page as a product catalog

Banking and Student cards own named options and scripts.

  • Sharing OTPs or SSN in WhatsApp

Banks never need your one-time code. Hang up and call the number on the card.
